We visited Provence in late summer 2019; and as hoped and expected we were blessed with wonderful weather - not too hot, lovely light. We were also blessed with an amazing place to stay (in Menerbes, near the Luberon) and some pretty good food etc. All of that you can check out over on AY On Life; this post is all about the photos.
Actually, its also a little bit of a shootout between the Fuji Klasse W and Contax T. Everything is shot on Portra 160; and so the shootout is relatively fair (but without the tedium of shooting the same image at the same time). There’s the obvious difference in focal length; and I should also point out that the T tended to overexpose a little.
So…on to the images!
First up - the Contax T in Roussillon
Now - the Fuji Klasse W in Arles
More Contax T - in and around Menerbes
…and more Klasse W (getting bored yet?)
…and we’re almost done (Contax T)
…and that’s a wrap (Fuji Klasse W)
…and at the end of this you probably expect me to reach some sort of conclusion. Erm…well…they’re both cameras and both can produce images. Overall my loyalty remains with the Fuji Klasse W - its a much easier camera to live with IMHO as it does what you really want a compact to do. The Contax is wonderful, the touch of overexposure forgiven, but it is a bit more of a faff to load and use (and if I want that, I’ll use my Leica M). Where the Contax has a slight advantage is in it’s size, it’s very compact indeed. But overall, the Fuji edges it.
So there you have it, a completely subjective conclusion to a question no-one ever had. If this is the type of thing that you’d like to see more of then head over to 35mmc - Hamish is much better at this sort of thing than me!
